Water Horses… Yet Another Work In Progress!

It’s been a while guys, here’s a quick update of what I’ve been drawing over the last month or so…

Everything’s been a bit manic recently, May/June is usually a busy time anyway, this year especially – everyone seems to be getting married/having children, I’m even on bridesmaid duty for my friend Emma at the end of the month!

Here’s a couple of snapshots of my latest drawing ‘Water Horses’.  As you can see there isn’t any water at the moment, I’m hoping it will kind of manifest itself the further I get along with it as I really don’t know where to start..!

The Making of ‘Movement’

Woo hoo, I’ve finally finished my latest artwork ‘Movement’, started this a couple of weeks ago after using myself as a model (hah, I wish) and just sketching out an idea in my head.  I initially struggled with the dress at first as I didn’t have a reference and unfortunately had to make the darn thing up!  I think it turned out alright in the end (with a few light sketches and lots of erasing!)

I’ve taken a few close up shots with my camera as detail is quite hard to see from the full picture, ideally I wanted the drawing to be A2 but settled with my usual A3 in the end, I reckon if I’d upped’ the paper size I’d be drawing till next Christmas!  As for the materials I used, I’m sure I started out with a 2H for the outlines (I like to work light) worked my way up to B for a little more detail then rounded off with a 3B and 6B for the darker areas.  I also like to use paper stumps to blend with, I’ve worked with them for a few years now and I really like the soft, smoky look they create.

I hope the sense of ‘fluidity’ and (obviously) ‘movement’ comes across in this as I was going for something slightly different with the angle of the head and position of the arms etc…  here are a few up close shots and the finished product at the bottom.

Movement – Update *Part 2*

Since I’m on a roll here with my drawings, I might as well make the extra effort with my blog too :)  I won’t beat around the bush, here’s the latest update on my new drawing ‘movement’  I’m pretty happy so far although at the moment I’m not using any reference for the dress I’m just making it up as I go along… so we’ll have to see how that turns out!

Dance Inspired Drawing

Okay so all this time I’ve been moaning and groaning about listening to too much music, dancing too much and feeling like I’m just wasting time!? Well since my next drawing is actually ‘dance inspired’ I can actually say with confidence that I’ve been practicing my moves all along just for this piece…! Well kinda…

I took some rather unflattering photos of myself just to get the angles and shapes correct, it seems to working fine so far, with quite a few adjustments as usual.  Here it is anyhow… still currently unnamed, I was thinking something along the lines of ‘movement’ or ‘rhythm’ not sure.

More new work coming soon, I’ve been working on quite a few new projects recently.

“Like” if you Like!

Hey everyone

Just a quick one, I’ve recently set up a page on facebook to hopefully show my art to a wider audience… my work is mainly pencil or watercolour, based around mythology and portraiture -  if you have a spare sec drop by and ‘like’ it for me!  It would be much appreciated!

10 Minute Egyptian Princess

As I haven’t been creating an amazing masterpiece recently, I’ve been using the time to improve my ‘biro’ skills (well, sort of… a little bit).  Here’s something I did the other day whilst watching a bit of tele, she’s some kind of Egyptian Princess, as usual I just started drawing with no intention of who/what it was meant to be.  Apologies for the quality, I took a quick snapshot with my camera.

Inspiration found… well, a little bit… for now

Okay, I’m getting back on track slowly!  Things on the design front are beginning to look brighter, I think maybe the accumulation of working late and going out has taken it’s toll, I’ve been like a walking zombie recently, no wonder I don’t feel creative.  I think it’s definitely time to book a holiday!

Anyway, here’s a quick design I created at home the other day using InDesign – it’s only a little practice piece for an Xbox repair/customization company:

ARTIST’S BLOCK!

Oh dear, dare I say it… … … I have Artist’s Block… it’s been with me for about a month now and I’m going crazy, like most people, I started off with good intentions at the beginning of the year, hopefully I won’t let it slide but just recently I’ve lost all of my creative fizz, most of my drawings don’t look that great or I just can’t get excited about them.

Sooner or later I’ll see something and it’ll set me off again, until then I’ll carry on with life!!

For those who don’t know, I love to draw people and figures usually with ethereal and beauty elements, if anyone has any ideas, feel more than free to drop me a line!

All for now

New Year… Nose to the grindstone (or sketch book at least)

That’s pretty much it guys, the more I actually type how much I’m going to move forward this year the more I hope it will make it happen!  When I finished for Christmas this year I fell into the eat-sleep-eat-sleep slumber, it’s only the last few days I’ve got my act together and started drawing again.  New Year was brilliant – much better than I expected, I do feel optimistic for the year ahead now (well as optimistic as you can be when it’s dark, miserable and cold outside – roll on summer!)

Okay, my main goals for this year are:

Permanently exhibit my art in a City Gallery (if I manage to get accepted)
Print and package my greeting cards/prints for sale
Re-vamp my website with a shopping basket! (oooooo!)
Sell via a market stall/car boot (at least once!)

Are you still awake?  The above does sounds incredibly dry I suppose, I will be enjoying myself and maintaining ‘the social life’ during all this!  As I’m a bit sad I’ve made a little list of all the ‘non career’ things I want to do this year!  (Why do I enjoy writing lists so much?)

Go to a real Drum n Bass night
Buy some new (decent) roller blades and re-kindle my love for it
Start tap dancing again (as I really miss it)

If I wrote everything else down I’ll be here all day!

Just to get the promo bit out of the way, my website is: http://www.whatgerididnext.co.uk
(trying my best to get my name out there!)

Well after all the boring talk here’s my latest drawing, it’s still very much a work in progress, I’ll hopefully be finished today so watch this space; once again I’ve used one of my best mates as reference (cheers love!)

I Love Watercolour Butterflies

It’s me again, thought I’d get this post in quickly before I shoot off to bed, been a busy bee this weekend painting away, since it’s not exactly shorts and flip flop weather I’ve spent most of my time indoors (apart from the failed shopping trip I had on Saturday).

Anyway, I’m working on a series of watercolour bufferfly pieces, I’ve only finished 2 at the moment… here they are

P.S.)  I hope you like them because I’ve been a naughty girl painting my own pictures instead of finishing my acrylic one for art class.. ha!   ……What a rebel.
